The functions of the Division of Afforestation and Forest Management are as follows: to work out the mid and long term program, annual plans, technical know-how and criteria of the municipal ecological forest, and supervise their implementation; to organize in establishing the 3-belt ecological defence around Beijing; to carry out various work on providing technical guidance, professional training and supervision on the establishment, management and protection of ecological forest; to provide guidance for monitoring, quarantine and prevention of organisms which are harmful to forest and greenery land; to provide guidance for combating desertification; to take biological measures in soil and water erosion control; to be responsible for the supervision and management of key afforestation or forest management projects; and to be in charge of administrative licensing businesses in combating desertification and silvicultural management according to law.
